Full California Curriculum AND 45 Hour Practicum Combo
The curriculum we offer provides you with the training hours that fulfill the 270 hours of educational training. California lists 6 academic areas that are required to meet their standards. We've worked with both CCAPP and CADTP them to create an approved package that focuses on these same 6 academic areas. Our curriculum, however, is actually a bit more than the 270 hours they require - 295 hours to be exact - and was developed to ensure that our students have the knowledge base to prepare them to work in the field AND to pass the credentialing exam when ready.
**If you would like to receive a discount for this combo package, please be sure to either enter your discount code upon check out, or give our office a call and we will happily supply you with a discount of your own! You can reach us TOLL FREE at 866-431-4240**
This package will also provide the Practicum piece that students seeking credentialing in California must complete after completing the CCAPP Basic Training curriculum. This includes 255 hours (CCAPP) or 160 hours (CADTP) of supervised work AND an additional 45 hours of training on clinical issues. Students are responsible for locating their own work place to obtain their required hours of experience, but DLCAS.com does offer the 45-hour training package that allows you to meet the educational requirement.
Goals/Objectives
This curriculum will provide you with both the basic training hours required to meet CCAPP's credentialing standards in California and the additional 45 hours of training on clinical issues (our Practicum course). You can download a copy of this curriculum by clicking on the link found in the "Coursework" tab. Additionally, more details about the Practicum can be found in the "Practicum Details" tab.
- ** PLEASE NOTE** Two texts will be required for the Practicum course. You will need BOTH books before you begin the actual online class.
- The first is a book by Corey and Corey, "Becoming a Helper." We will be working out of the fourth edition of this text in order to make it more affordable for students. You can find copies at a variety of locations, including eBay and Amazon.com. Try using this link to Amazon.com - Becoming a Helper, 4th Edition. There were a large number of both new and used copies of this book at some very reasonable prices.
- The second is the book "Developing Clinical Skills for Substance Abuse Counseling" by Daniel Yalisove. Again, Amazon.com is one of the places you can order the book, which should run around $45.

**IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE** There are four (4) courses in this curriculum that are delivered differently from our traditional coursework. Due to copyright restrictions, you will need to purchase either the hard copy or digital version of Carlton Erickson’s book "The Science of Addiction: From Neurobiology to Treatment (2nd Edition)," published by W.W. Norton & Company. Specific reading assignments will allow you to obtain course credits after passing a posttest. You may purchase the 2nd edition book from any resource, but we do recommend you consider purchasing directly from W.W. Norton & Company on their website (CLICK HERE) or from Amazon.com (CLICK HERE). With Amazon you can purchase a digital copy for use with their free Kindle application at a substantial savings. Check with your company as they might have something worked out for these courses and could have copies of this book in your library, but they will help you with that when you are ready. Please note: you will only need to purchase this book once, but can use it for all courses in the "Science of Addiction" series if interested. You can hold onto this book when you are ready for CEU hours as you can use it for the following series:The courses in this series based on Dr. Erickson’s book are:
- The Terminology of Addiction (3 clock hours of training)
- Dependence Disease Treatment (6 clock hours of training)
- Drugs and the Brain (6 clock hours of training)
- Addiction Research (4 clock hours of training)
- Basic Addiction Pharmacology (9 clock hours of training)
Students seeking credentialing in California must complete a practicum experience after completing the CCAPP Basic Training curriculum. This includes 255 hours of supervised work AND an additional 45 hours of training on clinical issues. Students are responsible for locating their own work place to obtain the 255 hours of experience, but DLCAS.com does offer the 45-hour training package that allows you to meet the educational requirement.
Unlike our other coursework, this course will be both GUIDED and PACED - in other words, you will be working under specific, set assignments on a weekly basis, requiring you to log on to an electronic classroom to obtain each week's assignment. This site will be proctored by an instructor who will be available to answer questions, provide further guidance, and track your progress though both your readings, course assignments, tests (yes - like our other coursework you will be doing a test of your knowledge - this time in the form of a mid-term and final exam), and your onsite hours. While you will be supervised directly by your worksite, we will require periodic reporting of your efforts and achievements in order to insure that you are successful in completing a minimum of 255 hours on-the-job.
There will be some built-in flexibility to account for holidays, vacations, sick-time, etc., and to give you ample time to log your 255 hours. What this means is that you will have 20 weeks to complete 15 weeks of assignments.
This course is a flexible-entry course - you can begin at any time once we have you registered AND once you have submitted your site verification form to us.
**REMEMBER - you will need to purchase copies of BOTH required texts found on the first "About this Package" tab.**
While our Practicum course is ONLY offered online, you will need to choose how the remaining coursework is delivered. We offer our coursework in the following:
Internet Format - Coursework that is available immediately via a downloadable PDF file (a popular online format that requires you to have the Adobe Reader program, or one similar, installed on your computer). Many websites already use this very user friendly file format, so chances are you already have a PDF reader installed on your computer. This format allows faster downloading, easier reading, and easier printing. All course materials will be included, as will the link to the post-test required for course completion. Access and downloading information will be immediately sent to the email address you provide at checkout. There is no additional charge for this format.
USB Flash Drive Format - Different computers, processors, ISP's, and software make it sometimes difficult or time-consuming to capture materials provided via the Internet. As a result, we've added the Flash Drive format to our list of options. With this format we will send you a Flash Drive by Priority Mail that can be used on any computer, laptop, tablet with a USB port. The drive will include a PDF copy of the course or courses ordered along with the test link needed to complete your course using our online test system. This option will include additional per course costs for materials/shipping/handling.
Hard Copy Format - Coursework that is delivered to you by Priority Mail in book form. All course materials will be included, as will the post-test required for course completion. For immediate results and faster certificate processing an email containing instructions on how to access your post-test online will be sent to the email address provided at checkout. Should you not want to submit the test yourself, a mail/fax form is also included that will allow you to mail or fax your test responses to us for processing. Hard copy courses will include additional per course costs for materials/shipping/handling.
